2014 Cadillac XTS offers optional twin turbo V-6 engine

General Motors Co. said Monday that its 2014 Cadillac XTS large sedan will be available with an optional twin turbo, 3.6-liter V-6 engine that will churn out 410 horsepower and 369 foot-pounds of torque.

The 2014 Cadillac XTS Vsport model is only available in the luxury car’s premium and platinum trim models. The XTS Vsport model also features 20-inch wheels and a special grille.

GM said production of the new twin-turbo V-6 engine — GM’s first — begins in August.

“The addition of the new Cadillac twin turbo expands and elevates the XTS luxury sedan,” Bob Ferguson, vice president of global Cadillac, said in a statement. “This is a compelling enhancement to what is already one of the most technically advanced sedans in our history.”

The twin turbo V-6 engine also is available on Cadillac’s all-new 2014 CTS Vsport model. The new CTS vehicles will be available this fall.

Drowsy Driving

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration conservatively estimates that 100,000 police-reported crashes are the direct result of driver fatigue each year. This results in an estimated 1,550 deaths, 71,000 injuries, and $12.5 billion in monetary losses.

Stay safe by knowing and understanding the symptoms before you or your driver falls asleep!

Warning signs for drowsy drivers:

  1. Eyes closing or not focusing by themselves
  2. Difficulty in keeping your head up
  3. Yawning constantly
  4. Not remembering driving the last few minutes
  5. Drifting between lanes, tailgating, or missing traffic signs
  6. Jerking the car back into the lane after drifting

All-New CTS Sedan Ascends into Midsize Luxury Segment

When the all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan arrives in dealerships this fall, it will offer more interior space, power and technology with more than 20 new standard features compared with the current model.

Inside and out, the third-generation CTS sedan grows, ascending into the heart of the midsize luxury market, with an all-new design that is longer, lower and leaner. The new CTS is five inches longer, expanding interior space, but also 244 pounds lighter than the previous model. It is expected to be the lightest car in its segment.

“CTS has always been Cadillac’s centerpiece, and as our brand expands and elevates the car properly grows to its true place” said David Leone, CTS executive chief engineer. “With last year’s addition of the award-winning ATS compact luxury sedan, CTS will directly challenge the luxury midsize competition with uncompromised performance, luxury and technology.”

Three Collections of option packages – Luxury, Performance and Premium – will be offered with either the 2.0T turbocharged four cylinder or 3.6L naturally aspirated V6 engine in either rear- or all-wheel drive.

CTS will be offered with a choice of three powertrains, including a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that puts out 272 horsepower and goes from zero to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds – 1.5 seconds faster than the outgoing model. Standard front Brembo brakes with ferritic-nitro carburizing, or FNC, anti-corrosion rotors give CTS braking performance that Cadillac expects to be best in the segment. Magnetic Ride Control, the world’s fastest-reacting suspension and a hallmark of V-Series models, is now standard on base models with 18-inch wheels.

Selectable drive modes will allow drivers to adjust the vehicle’s performance dynamics for touring, ice and snow, or sport driving. The CTS Vsport model features the new Cadillac Twin-Turbo 3.6L V6 engine with an SAE-certified 420 horsepower and a “track” drive mode with specific Magnetic Ride Control calibration and enhanced throttle progression for greater track performance.

The Vsport model contains the highest-performing components, led by the all-new Twin Turbo V6. The CTS Vsport model comes equipped with an electronic limited slip differential and eight-speed automatic transmission in RWD only.

Inside, all CTS models are equipped with CUE, Cadillac’s breakthrough system for connectivity and control featuring an eight-inch fully reconfigurable touch screen. CUE brings tablet-like functionality into the CTS with functions such as haptic feedback to confirm selections, proximity sensing to reveal hidden icons, gesture recognition and capacitive touch. A 5.7-inch display in the instrument cluster allows the driver to control radio, phone and navigation functions through steering wheel controls without having to take his eyes off the road.

CTS will come with an 11-speaker Bose premium audio system with HD radio capability. Users will have several options for streaming portable media devices with three USB ports and one auxiliary and SD card port.

Maintenance Tip Monday

Don’t wait until the last minute to fill up your tank on the road! Waiting until the gas needle gets close to EMPTY or the gas light goes not only puts you at risk of being stranded on the side of the road, but it can cause potential damage to your car. Running your car on very little fuel can pull sediment from the bottom of the fuel tank into the rest of the car's system. This can clog the fuel pump, fuel injectors or fuel filter. The fuel pump is electric and the sediment could also cause your car to overheat, costing you about $500 in repairs, which is definitely not something most of us want to spend money on, especially during vacation!

To prevent this from happening, re-fuel before your car is below a quarter tank and definitely before the gaslight goes on!

Cadillac is Back

When General Motors officially reports its May 2013 U.S. sales results, it will be none other than the 110-year-old Cadillac brand that will be the star of the show — with a 40 percent sales increase in May 2013 (vs. May 2012), and a 38 percent increase year-to-date (year-over-year for 2013).

“Cadillac is back.” said Bob Ferguson, vice president, Global Cadillac. “Our growth is product-driven, new luxury vehicles with dramatic design and performance drawing new customers to showrooms.”

The brand’s May 2013 sales results will mark the 12th consecutive month of sales growth at Cadillac in the U.S., and the year-to-date increase of 38 percent will be the brand’s largest since 1976.

“Cadillac is growing faster than it has in almost 40 years, the pickup rebound is in full swing and we’re seeing strong retail demand for our crossovers” said Kurt McNeil, vice president of U.S. sales operations. “These are all powerful signs that the gradual recovery in the economy is becoming more broad-based. That’s great news for the auto industry and General Motors.”

Stars of the May sales report will include the ATS — the 2013 North American Car of the Year — which is enjoying a 70 percent conquest rate of buyers choosing their first Cadillac, along with the XTS (best retail sales month) and Escalade (best May sales since 2008). Overall, sales of Cadillac’s sedan portfolio is up 122 percent so far in 2013 — and we have no reason to believe that the all-new 2014 CTS, ATS-V, ATS Coupe, LTS sedan, as well as other new vehicles won’t drive the brand’s global growth well into the future.
